Painting on Ceramics w/ Niharika Hukku
Join us for this exclusive workshop guided by the internationally renown underglaze master herself - Niharika. During this workshop you will learn how to ideate, find and create a colour palette, mix colours, learn brushwork, work with a bowl/vase shape and learn techniques in painting with underglazes that the artist has developed over her career as a painter and ceramicist.

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Beginner - Advanced (All skill levels are welcome However, some basic drawing/ceramic experience is helpful.)
Who is Niharika Hukku?
Multi disciplinary artist Niharika Hukku is based in Sydney. She received a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) from the Delhi College of Art, India (2000), and has undertaken studies in ceramics and sculpture in Indonesia, Singapore and Australia. Her work has featured in over 30 solo and group for exhibitions in California, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and Wellington since 2009 such as, Arcadia Contemporary, USA(2019), Mosman Art Prize, Sydney (2017), Sculpture by the Sea(2024, 2016), and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, NZ(2009, 2010), Her work has been a finalist in the 29th Gold Coast International Ceramic Art Award (2014) and this year she was selected for the Harden Art prize, featured in the book ‘Earth and Fire’ and also illustrated a children’s book ‘This bird has arms’. Her work has been acquired by Gold Coast City Gallery, and private collections in Australia and overseas.
In this class you will;
- Learn how to create a connection between the shape of a vessel and decoration.
- Discuss, plan and sketch your the artwork design for your piece.
- Work graphically in a single colour or observationally in multiple colours.
- Discuss brushwork and tools.
- Prepare surfaces and draw in pencil onto the surface.
- Create a colour palette.
- Paint with underglazes on a bisque fired bowl.
